Use P.E.R.S.I.A. or P.E.R.S.I.A.N. as a helpful mnemonic for learning & organizing information about a specific topic, ancient civilization, geographic location, or period of history in a geography or social studies course. Unlike a boring chart, this printable activity is a hands-on and engaging graphic organizer. The acronym is an effective way to learn and sort information that students need to know while thinking about the big picture of history instead of just one or two isolated events.
PERSIA stands for Politics, Economics, Religion, Social Structures, Intellect/Arts, and Area (Geography). You may use PERSIAN (Politics, Economics, Religion, Social Structures, Intellect, Arts, and Near (Geography)) instead. No matter which acronym you use, this product is for you! There are 3 versions of the fans (each with a PERSIA and PERSIAN version, making for 6 total) to allow you to differentiate in order to best meet your individual students’ needs.
1. Provides the definition for each topic (or letter), as well as questions you would focus on for each topic. Students are asked to provide keywords to look for related to each topic.
2. Blank version where students provide a definition/description for each topic, questions you would ask for the topic, and any related keywords or vocabulary.
3. Provides a description of each topic, as well as keywords. There is blank space left for students to take notes. They can use the space to take notes about good questions to ask for each topic, or they can use the space to conduct a PERSIA/N study of a particular location, time, or topic.
This activity would make a great addition to your social studies, geography, world history, or general history course. For maximum durability, I recommend printing the fan on card stock, but regular printer paper works just fine as well. Clear directions for assembling the fan are included.
