Description
Use MR. LIP as a helpful mnemonic for studying the Five Themes of Geography. The acronym stands for Movement, Region, Location, human-environment Interaction, and Place and can be used for a variety of social studies and geography courses. Mr. Lip is an effective way to learn and organize information that students need to know about different geographic locations of the past and present.
This interactive fan is a fun, engaging activity that can be used to teach the acronym Mr. Lip for the first time or as a way to organize information about a country or place using the 5 Themes as a tool. The fan promotes hands-on student engagement and helps keep students organized. There are two versions of the fan to allow for differentiation in order to meet a variety of your students’ needs as they learn about the five themes. One version includes information about each theme including the driving question, keywords, and an example. Students are asked to provide an additional example. The second version of the fan requires students to fill in their own questions for each theme, draw an example of the theme, and write about their drawing or the example they chose. This activity would make a great addition to your geography, social studies, or history course. For maximum durability, I recommend printing the fan on card stock, but regular printer paper works just fine as well. Clear directions for assembling the fan are included.
